The TVP team is dedicated in helping you and your child feel comfortable from the moment you walk through our door. We strive to treat your children as our own. Dr. Maxie will take her boards in 2023 and all of our other physicians are board certified. Our physicians are part of the pediatric hospitalist staff at Helen Keller Hospital.
Our doctors and staff look forward to building a caring relationship with you and your family! Our clinic has been awarded the Readers' Choice Award for Best Pediatrician in 2016-2020.

Dr. Melvin has been in practice since 1986. He is a native of Florence, AL. He is a graduate of Bradshaw High School and Birmingham Southern College. He earned his medical degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and completed his residency at Baylor University in Houston, TX.
He served in the Air Force before beginning private practice in the Shoals in 1986. He and his wife, Karmen Somers, started Tennessee Valley Pediatrics in 2003. He is Chief of Pediatrics at Helen Keller Hospital.
Dr. Melvin and Karmen, together, have five children and three grandchildren. He enjoys hunting, fishing, and Alabama Crimson Tide football.
Dr. Maxie was born and raised in Hamilton, MS. She earned her bachelor's degree at Mississippi State University and attended medical school at Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine in Auburn, AL. She completed her residency at Connecticut Children's Hospital in Hartford Connecticut.
She completed her medical school clinicals at Helen Keller Hospital, including her pediatric clinical which she did at TVP, and is excited to return back to the Shoals area.
Dr. Maxie is married to Dr. John Orr, who is a dentist at Singing River Dentistry. They enjoy spending time with their dog "Biscuit", college sports (Dr. Maxie- Mississippi State and Dr. Orr- Alabama) and spending time outdoors. Dr. Maxie also enjoys gardening and sewing.
Erica graduated from the University of North Alabama with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 2003 and from the University of Alabama in Huntsville with a Master of Science in Nursing in the Family Nurse Practitioner track in 2008.
She worked as a registered nurse at Helen Keller Hospital for five years in the Pediatric and Nursery Department. Erica has been a part of the Tennessee Valley Pediatrics family since 2009. She has two boys, Salem and Beckett.
Alicia is a native of the Shoals area. She graduated with an Associate's Degree of Nursing from Northwest Shoals Community College, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of North Alabama and a Master of Science in Nursing from Auburn University. She has worked in pediatrics with Dr. Melvin since 1996 and has over 20 years of experience as a lactation consultant. Alicia and her husband, Todd have three children and 2 grandchildren. Her hobbies include watching her children play sports, reading, and spending time with loved ones.
Katie was born and raised in Muscle Shoals, AL. She received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Master of Science in Nursing degree with a pediatric track from the University of Alabama in Birmingham.
She has worked in the NICU at Children’s Hospital and the nursery at Eliza Coffee Memorial Hospital. Katie has been with Tennessee Valley Pediatrics since 2012.
She and her husband, Michael, have two children, Keeton and Libby. The couple also have four dogs and love traveling.
Amanda is a 1998 Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree graduate of the University of Alabama Capstone College of Nursing. In 2009, she earned her Master of Nursing degree from Mississippi University for Women in Columbus, MS. She has been a nurse practitioner with TVP since 2014.
Amanda has a background in family practice and women’s health. She and her husband, Matt, have three children. Amanda enjoys spending time with loved ones, traveling, and Alabama football.
Wyndie White is a native to the Shoals area. She graduated from the University of North Alabama with a BS in Nursing in 2010. She continued her education from the University of Alabama at Huntsville with a Master of Science in Nursing perusing a Family Nurse Practitioner track in 2014. She has over 6 years of experience as a medical professional in Pediatrics both as an RN and NP before joining us. Wyndie has been part of the TVP family since 2016. She and her husband, Dakin, have two handsome boys. She enjoys Alabama football and spending time with family and friends.
Brandi graduated from Red Bay High School. She received her Bachelor or Science in Nursing from UNA and her Master of Science in Nursing from Troy State University. She worked in labor and delivery for many years as an RN. Brandi is primarily at our Florence location caring for your children of all ages.
She has been married to Keith for 15 years and they have two children Jace and Jolie. Brandi enjoys traveling, camping and spending time with family and friends. She has been with TVP since 2020.
Debbie Valentine, CRNP was born and raised in Central Florida. She received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from UNA in 2000 and her Master of Science in Nursing in the Family Nurse Practitioner track from Troy University. She worked for 11 years as a Registered Nurse at NAMC in Labor/Delivery and Postpartum. She also worked previously in pediatrics and mother/baby in Florida.
Debbie has been married to her husband Shawn for over 20 years. They have two daughters, Brooke and Alexis. Debbie enjoys spending time with her family and traveling. She joined the TVP family in 2020.
Lindsay grew up in Florence and graduated from Coffee High School. She has a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from UNA and Master of Science in Nursing from Troy State University. She is a licensed family nurse practitioner. She worked in labor and delivery for many years as an RN. After spending two years as our adolescent nurse practitioner, she is primarily at our Florence location working, together with our behavioral health team, to better care for your children and adolescents with anxiety, depression and other behavioral concerns.
She and her husband Jason have been married for over 20 years and have a son, Luke, and a daughter, Lila. When not taking care of her children, Lindsay enjoys spending time with family, watching high school football, reading and the beach. She has been a part of the TVP family since 2020.
Meggin is originally from the Birmingham area and received her bachelor's degree from the University of North Alabama in 2013. She spent her nursing career in the PICU (Pediatric Intensive Care Unit) working both across the nation as a travel nurse and across the world in the mission field. In 2018, she returned to the Shoals to complete her master's at her alma mater and earned her degree in as a Family Nurse Practitioner in 2021. She began working in the main clinic at TVP and is now primarily at the Adolescent Clinic with our older kids.
Meggin and her husband, Daniel, have two children. When not serving others at work, church or in the community, Meggin and her family enjoy adventuring, exploring, and experiencing new things together.
Taylor is a native of the Shoals Area. She attended the University of North Alabama and received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 2018 and her Master of Science in Nursing, specializing as a Family Nurse Practitioner in 2022.
Taylor has worked at Helen Keller Hospital on OB, Labor and Delivery and Postpartum since 2018 and joined TVP as an RN in 2020. With her new credentials, she has moved in the role of CRNP at the Adolescent Clinic and is available for discussion and management of birth control options for our adolescent female patients along with regular sick and well child visits.
Taylor and her husband, Austin, have one daughter, Aniston, and two pups, Aspen and Scout. When not at work, she enjoys time with family, taking Aniston on walks and watching Alabama football.

Yes, Tennessee Valley Pediatrics is currently accepting new patients who need a pediatrician.
Yes. Our main office in Tuscumbia is open from 8-11 a.m. on Saturdays and 1-4 p.m. on Sundays for your convenience. It operates like a walk-in clinic for TVP patients. You can come anytime during these hours and you do not need an appointment.
